Digital Camera Lens
4.5mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Circular Fisheye

Digitally optimised circular fisheye lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with an APS-C size image sensor.

- -

This auto focus circular fisheye lens has an angle of view of 180 degrees in all directions. It is exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras with the APS-C size image sensor. When used in conjunction with digital SLRs with APS-C size image sensors, it produces circular image within the frame.

F2.8 maximum aperture
The fast f/2.8 maximum aperture produces a bright image in the viewfinder making this lens ideal for low light photography.

Close-up Photography
This circular fisheye lens has a minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm and a maximum magnification of 1:6 making it particularly useful for close-up photography.

Excellent optical performance
SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass provides effective compensation of chromatic aberration and Sigma’s Super Multi-Layer coating minimises flare and ghosting.

High speed auto focus
It is equipped with an inner focusing system that creates high definition and excellent image quality over the whole frame. The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor)ensures fast and quiet autofocusing and allows full-time manual focus override by rotation of the focus ring.

Ideal for panoramic and scientific applications
This lens is ideal for photographers using computer stitching software which requires circular fisheye images to be input, resulting in stitched panoramas. Due to the quantifiable angle/area relationship it produces, this lens can be used for scientific applications such as solid angle measurements of cloud distribution over the sky, or vegetation distribution of the rain forest canopy.

Gelatin Filter Holder
A holder at the rear of the lens accepts gelatin filters.

Digital Photographer - Issue 73
‘…fisheye lenses can be used to create striking visual and compositional effects, and they’re popular with more creative and adventurous photographers. It’s tempting to imagine that this lens would be perfect for squeezing in panoramic landscapes. Indeed, it can be used with ‘stitching’ software to create interactive 2D and 3D panoramas.’

Outdoor Photography - October 2008
’Despite being a photographer who normally prefers to record nature authentically, my attitude shifted the moment I first looked at the world through such an extreme focal length. The fisheye effect is captivating. The lens’ unique perspective can be combined to good effect with practically any subject – you just need to learn to look at your environment with a creative eye.’

Digital Camera Buyer - Issue 75
‘For professional photographers whose trademark is surreal effect, those who produce interactive 3D virtual environments or need to produce images for scientific analysis, the Sigma 4.5mm fisheye could be a sound investment.’

Practical Photography - October 2008
‘The lens itself feels solid and well made, and the autofocus is fast and quiet. Results are good, with high levels of sharpness at the centre of the frame. Flare is well controlled considering the lack of lens hood and exposed front element. A well made specialist optic that’s unique in the market place and hard to fault. If you have a use for round images, go ahead and buy it.’

PhotoPlus - Spring 2009
‘Fit one of these to your camera and you get an instant wow-factor just looking through the viewfinder. Autofocus comes courtesy of Sigma’s fast and near silent HSM system, which worked flawlessly in our tests. As well as creating a fisheye effect, this lens is also great for use with computer stitching software, so you can transform images into navigable virtual reality scenes. And to the best of our knowledge, if you want a circular fisheye for your smaller-sensor camera, this is the only one of the market.’
