Telephoto Lens
85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM

A large aperture medium telephoto lens optimised for use with digital SLR cameras, ensuring a natural perspective.

- - - -

This large aperture medium telephoto lens ensures a natural perspective. The attractive blur at F1.4 is ideal for portrait, landscape and low light photography. SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass and a molded glass aspherical lens element provide excellent correction of all types of aberrations. High image quality is assured throughout the entire focusing range and the Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting. This lens provides sharp and high contrast images even at the maximum aperture of F1.4. The incorporation of HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) provides fast and quiet autofocus and the rounded 9 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of the image.

Medium telephoto lens ideal for portrait photography
This large aperture medium telephoto lens ensures a natural perspective and creates an attractive bokeh. The large maximum aperture of F1.4, narrow depth of field and attractive blur make this lens ideal for portrait and also low light photography. The lens effectively becomes a large aperture 127.5mm medium telephoto when used with APS-C size digital SLR cameras.
* The angle of view varies depending on the camera the lens is mounted on.

Superior image quality
One SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element is used for effective compensation of chromatic aberration. The molded glass aspherical lens element provides excellent correction of spherical aberration and sagittal coma flare. This minimises distortion and ensures high image quality.

Super Multi-Layer Coating
The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting, even when taking pictures against the light, and ensures high contrast images throughout the focusing range.

Superior peripheral brightness
The design of the large aperture provides superior performance, increasing peripheral brightness and enabling a bright viewfinder image.

Rounded diaphragm
This lens has a rounded 9 blade diaphragm which creates an attractive blur to the out of focus area of the image.

High speed and quiet AF
The lens incorporates HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures high speed and quiet AF as well as full time manual focus capability.

Dedicated Hood Adapter HA850-02 (Supplied)
A Petal-type-Hood which prevents extraneous light from degrading the image quality is supplied as standard. A Hood adapter extends the length of the lens hood and provides more effective shading when used with digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor.
* When using the APS-C Hood Adapter HA850-02 with digital cameras with larger than APS-C size image sensor, vignetting will occur. Please remove he hood adapter id you are using these cameras.

Professional Image Maker
‘The engineering is the high standard we have come to expect from Sigma. A nice touch is the provision of a deeper lens hood extension for users with APS-C size chips - handy if you are the owner of both formats. One thing the lens taught us is that the narrow zone of an image that is in focus is bitingly sharp and would often need a bit of softening work on skin to remain flattering!’

What Digital Camera
‘As is often the case with Sigma products, a lot of thought has gone into this lens. Overall this is a very nice lens that offers a bright viewfinder and excellent image quality, with a clever added extra in the form of its dual-format lens hood.’

Ephotozine
‘Sigma have created a real gem here. This 85mm f/1.4 is a relatively affordable wide aperture telephoto lens that is capable of producing superb results. The lens handles well, feels very well put together and costs hundreds of pounds less than manufacturer's own equivalent lenses.’

Digital Photo
‘Released in the early part of 2010, Sigma’s 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM might seem significantly more expensive than its rivals, but it’s one of the most competitively priced 85mm f/1.4 lenses on the market to feature full AF/MF workings and a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) to keep AF operation as quiet and quick as possible. The focus ring is big, offers a pleasing resistance and is easy to locate from behind the camera, just like the prominent MF/AF switch.’
