Incorporated with an aspherical lens and SLD (Special-Low-Dispersion)
This lens uses one aspherical lens and three SLD (the special low dispersion) glass elements for excellent correction of chromatic aberration. Colour aberration in the secondary spectrum is compensated by using three Special Low-Dispersion (SLD) glass elements, making high-quality images a reality throughout the entire zoom range.

Rear focusing
The five-group zoom and rear focus systems ensure high performance, stability and ease of use.

Detachable tripod collar

A removable tripod collar and matched lens hood is included as a standard component.

Ephotozine - May 2006
‘At a fraction under a 3x zoom ratio, this lens falls just within the range where not too many compromises need to be made in order to extract a decent performance from a zoom and this is where Sigma seem to excel. Distortion is extremely well controlled and a barely measurable’ ‘Well presented, with case and hood included, it is good value for money. If you need this kind of reach with an adequate AF performance but don’t want to dig deep enough for faster glass and sonic motors, this one will serve you well.’

Photography Monthly - August 2006
‘A well-thought out layout makes for confident handling and the lens remains well-balanced on the tripod collar, even when ‘tromboned’ out a further 86mm at 400mm.’ ‘A lightweight lens turning out a reasonable performance at a budget price.’

Which Digital Camera - August 2006
‘Quite a performer, especially at the short end. Distortion is well controlled, pincushion negligible, and flare hard to create. The lens coatings and construction works wonders, improving contrast and keeping internal reflections in check.’ ‘Lightweight for its focal length range but still fairly well made. If you’re looking for this kind of pulling power but don’t want to spend a fortune, look no further.’

Digital Photographer - Issue 56
‘Distortion is extremely well controlled…and is as close to nil as you are likely to get.’ ‘The DG coating that Sigma has developed goes a good way to improving the contrast of a lens, and this holds true for this example. Developed to help cut down light bouncing off the sensor surface and travelling around inside the lens, the benefits have far outstripped the original purpose and also assist in controlling flare.’

Digital Camera Buyer - Issue 61
‘With the inclusion of three special low-dispersion glass elements, the lens goes a good way to banish chromatic aberrations and this is true across the frame.’ ‘For a budget lens, there’s not a great deal wrong with this. The light weight means there’s no excuse not to have it with you.’
