Close-up Photography
This large aperture telephoto zoom lens has a minimum focusing distance of 100cm (39.4”) throughout the entire zoom range, making it very convenient for close-up photography. It maintains a greater working distance that enables you to capture the small animals and insects without disturbing them.

SLD and ELD Glass Elements
This lens uses two ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements and three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements for utmost correction against chromatic aberrations. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range.

HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) for silent and fast auto - focus
The HSM provides quiet high-speed AF function, as well as full time manual focus capability.

Inner focusing and inner zooming systems
This lens incorporates an inner focusing system, which eliminates front lens rotation, allowing the use of a petal-type hood and more convenient to use of circular polarizing filter. Since focusing and zooming do not change its overall length, this lens is easy to hold and use. This lens comes with detachable tripod mount.

APO Tele-Converter EX (optional)
The lens can be used with the 1.4x EX or 2.0x EX Apo Tele Converters (optional), becoming a 98-280mm F4 telephoto zoom lens or a 140-400mm F5.6 telephoto zoom lens respectively. It is also possible to use AE (Automatic Exposure) function, when EX Tele-converters are attached.

‘Once mounted, the lens balances very well with a smooth movement through the zoom ring, and the manual focus offers bags of control for precise focusing. AF is quick and quiet, and it's also worth mentioning the excellent close focusing capabilities of this lens. It has a very good minimum focus distance of only 100cm through the entire zoom range, allowing plenty of scope for close-up photography and a maximum reproduction of 1:3.5.' 'It's a really well made lens and gives its more expensive rivals a good run for their money.'

‘In the field, if noise levels and autofocus speed come into the purchaser’s equation, the Sigma scores notably.’ ‘The choice will then depend on the practical aspects of ergonomic design, build and cost. Viewed in that way, the Sigma zoom noses ahead for a number of applications.’

Master Photo Digital - May 2009
‘Combine the 2x accuracy of an f/2.8 sensor with the sheer speed of Sigma’s new HSM hypersonic focus motor found in the Sigma 70-200mm, and the result is more than impressive. Well, the Sigma when fitted to my Alpha 900 came as a surprise – I had no idea an ultrasonic focus motor could shift a big lens like this at such speed. Once a few test shots had been taken, it was clear that the Sigma has optical advantages over the Sony despite costing half the price.’
