Wide Lens
8mm f/3.5 EX DG CIRCULAR FISHEYE

Large aperture, F3.5, circular fisheye lens with close up capability and optimised for used with digital SLR cameras.

-

This fisheye lens produces circular images with an angle of view of 180° when attached to a full-frame digital or 35mm film SLR camera. It has a fast maximum aperture of F3.5 and a minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm. Sigma’s super multi-layer coating and Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass provide excellent image quality for digital and film SLR cameras. The special fisheye design allows maximum creative expression.

The world's only 8mm lens equipped with auto-focus
This fisheye lens incorporates an auto focus system to achieve accurate focusing that might be difficult through the camera's viewfinder due to the extremely large depth of field.

F3.5 maximum aperture
This lens is perfectly suited for low light conditions, indoors or at dusk.

Close-up Photography
This circular fisheye lens has a minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm and a maximum magnification of 1:4.6 making it particularly useful for close-up photography.

Excellent optical performance
Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass offer effective compensation of colour aberration.

Reduction of flare and ghosting
Sigma’s super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, a common problem with digital cameras and also creates an optimum colour balance.

Ideal for panoramic and scientific applications
This lens is ideal for photographers using computer stitching software which requires circular fisheye images to be input, resulting in stitched panoramas. Due to the quantifiable angle/area relationship it produces, this lens can be used for scientific applications such as solid angle measurements of cloud distribution over the sky, or vegetation distribution of the rain forest canopy.

Gelatin Filter Holder
A holder at the rear of the lens accepts gelatin filters.

*Full circle can only be captured with full frame 35mm format digital SLR and film SLR cameras.

Ephotozine - October 2006
‘For those needing this type of lens, for example when using software to create panoramics or for those involved in the scientific measurement of angles, where the output from this lens is quantifiable, this lens is an excellent tool. For those who just want to experiment with the unusual perspective of a 180° field of view, or even the somewhat reduced field if using the lens on a cropped sensor, then this lens is a high class example.’

Professional Photographer - January 2007
‘There is a filter holder fitted around the rear element to accept gelatin filters, which must be cut to size. Thoughtfully, Sigma supplies a metal template to assist in this procedure, something that Canon and Nikon would do well to note!’ ‘The optical performance is extraordinary considering the lens delivers circular images. Resolution at the centre of the frame is very high, even at the maximum aperture, and peaks between f/4 and f/11.’ ‘Image contrast and colour saturation are good, with chromatic aberrations also well controlled.’

Practical Photography - May 2007
‘This lens will give you the full circular image in your frame on both film SLRs and full-frame D-SLRs, so you’ll benefit from its full capability.’ ‘Lenses this short often suffer from flare in the lens elements but we found no such problems with this one, even shooting directly into bright light.’ ‘An incredibly niche lens but one that will give even mundane scenes a new twist.’

Digital SLR User - October 2007
‘In terms of image quality, the Sigma 8mm is highly capable, offering excellent resolution and coloured fringing on detail is kept so low that it is barely noticeable. Available in Canon, Nikon and, of course, Sigma Mounts, the Sigma 8mm is an excellent fisheye lens. It is well constructed and producing high quality images it makes a tempting choice compared to more expensive own brand options.’

PhotoPlus - October 2007
‘…if you want the ultimate in fish-eyed coverage then you have to check out Sigma’s 8mm. This provides 180 degree view of the world. On a camera like the EOS 400D, this circle is cropped, but you still get a unique fish-eye effect.

Freelance Photographer - October/November 2007
‘Offering apertures from f/3.5-22, the improved model is sharper and faster than the outgoing f/4, with an 11-element design and six-blade diaphragm providing the immediate technical differences. Offering a full circle reproduction on a full frame camera, or the slight cut-off seen here on the smaller Sigma SD14 sensor, the 8mm is one of those lenses that everyone should consider if looking to expand their horizons. This is a lens almost without competition and justifies the EX DG branding.’
