Natural history
and scenic photographer Ross Hoddinott is regarded as one
of the UK’s most promising young professionals. A
previous winner of the Young Wildlife Photographer of the
Year award, In 2006 he was a runner-up in the “Animal
behaviour; all other animals” category in the prestigious
Shell Wildlife Photographer of the year competition. He
is a regular contributor to “Digital SLR Photography”
and “Outdoor Photography” magazines and his
images are published in a wide variety of publications and
markets worldwide.
I particularly
enjoy close-up work and presently my favourite and most
regularly used lens is the Sigma 150mm macro. The extra
working distance this focal length allows me often proves
invaluable when photographing flighty insects. Last year
saw the publication of my first book, “Digital Macro
Photography” - published by PIP. I have also just
finished writing the “Digital Photographer’s
Guide to Filters” - published this autumn by “David
and Charles”. Both books were largely illustrated
with images captured using Sigma EX optics. Although I am
a Nikon camera user, I have been using Sigma’s independent
lens range since I first began taking pictures seriously
aged 13. Being a teenager with very limited funds, my decision
to opt for Sigma was originally partly based on budget.
However, today I continue to use Sigma lenses due to their
high optical quality, robust construction and performance.
