10mm F2.8 EX DC DIAGONAL FISHEYE HSM

Design detail

Fisheye lens designed for APS-C digital SLR cameras with a close focusing capability

This fisheye lens is designed for use with digital SLR cameras and produces a diagonal angle of view of 180° for Nikon cameras (154° for Sigma, 167° for Canon). The diagonal field of view of this fisheye lens produces striking images with exaggerated perspective and distortion. The minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm/5.3inch, and maximum magnification of 1:3.3 allows subjects to be as close as 1.8cm/0.7inch from the lens’ front element. The integral hood and Super Multi-Layer Coating minimize flare and ghosting and create superior image quality.

Fisheye lens designed for APS-C digital SLR cameras

The Nikon version produces a diagonal angle of view of 180°(154° for Sigma, 167° for Canon). The diagonal field of view of this fisheye lens can be used to create amazing image expressions that cannot be seen with the human eye, such as exaggerated perspective and distortion. The lens produces a large depth of field making it suitable for a wide range of subjects.

High level of optical performance

The optical design, exclusive to fisheye lenses, provides correction of color aberrations and ensures superior peripheral brightness. The Integral hood blocks out extraneous light and the Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes flare and ghosting, creating superior image quality.

The close focusing capability allows close-up photography

The minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm/5.3inch, and maximum magnification of 1:3.3 allows subjects to be as close as 1.8cm/0.7inch from the lens’ front element. The close focusing capability together with a large depth of field allows close up photography that covers objects surrounding the photographic subject.

F2.8 Large aperture

It is an ideal lens for Astrophotography and Aurora photography. The large depth of field enables photographers to emphasize the subject.

Equisolid angle projection system

Due to the quantifiable angle/area relationship it produces, this lens can be used for scientific applications.

HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor)

The HSM models provide ultra quiet, high-speed autofocusing as well as full-time manual focus override. Gelatin Filter Holder This lens is equipped with a gelatin filter holder at the rear, allowing the use of gelatin filters.

In the news

‘There’s clearly a lot of glass and metal crammed into a small volume, but it does feel very well-made as a result. The focusing is fast and quiet too. It will focus right down to 13.5cm which is an advantage where you want to produce striking perspectives and distorted relationships between nearby objects and their backgrounds. Optically, the performance is very good.’

‘For a non-zoom lens, this is a chunky piece of kit, which is explained not only by the huge lump of optical glass at the front that creates the fisheye effect, but also by its fast f/2.8 maximum aperture. In out tests, the resolution turned out to be surprisingly good at f/2.8, but the lens gave its best when the aperture was set to f/8.’

‘In your hand, the quality of the award-winning Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art is obvious – one of the early flag-bearers for Sigma’s new premium quality Global Vision range….It’s very sharp indeed, in fact sharper than rivals from Canon and Nikon.’

‘The focus ring turns with a little more tightness than that of the Nikon and feels all the more precise as a result. Because of the enormous amount of distortion and light refraction, images shot on fisheye lenses tend to perform badly toward the frame edges. Having said that, shots taken using the Sigma are superb. In fact, details toward the edges of the frame are sharper at wide apertures than with the Nikon 10.5mm. For me, the fine performance of the Sigma at all aperture settings, both in the centre and edge of the frame, makes it the superior lens.’

‘‘It is a diagonal fisheye with a smart little extras. The autofocus is quick and quiet…’
