We are Filly and Paul Bonito-Brook and photography is a big part of our lives. All of our trips are planned around photography and we have had many adventures full of fun and challenges. We love the community spirit that comes along with photography, we have met many photographers along the way and some long-lasting friendships have been made. Photography for us is very therapeutic and is a mindfulness and bonding experience.
Just recently we have had the privilege of using SIGMA’s DC DN Contemporary lenses made specifically for APS-C sensor cameras in the new EF-M mount; the SIGMA 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, the SIGMA 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary and the SIGMA 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary. We normally use full frame cameras but these lenses paired up great with our compact Canon M50 which we use for vlogs or when we want to travel light. The lightweight, compact and image quality of the three SIGMA DC DN lenses were a delight to use.
One of the main aspects we enjoyed the most of this range was their versatility to be able to use them for any subject matter. However, the SIGMA 16mm |Contemporary and the SIGMA 30mm | Contemporary matched perfectly for our main subject of landscape photography.
Using the trio of SIGMA DC DN | Contemporary lenses made us wonder why we only use the M50 camera as a back-up camera as they gave us a whole new experience of enjoyment. The lenses are small, sturdy and beautifully built with a simplistic design. We found all the lenses had fast autofocus ability and the wide aperture was great in low light. When shooting people with the SIGMA 56mm | Contemporary lens (85mm full frame) the bokeh was beautiful with no green or purple fringing. We both found that all three lenses gave a superb image quality with accurate colours and sharpness throughout.
All three lenses felt balanced on the camera and didn’t feel heavy when hand holding, the focus peaking was a great aid when manually focusing which was smooth and accurate. These versatile little lenses were a joy to carry around and easily fit into a small carry bag. The lenses are a great quality and will be a welcome addition to any camera bag, ours included.
