Daniel Peters, Cinematographer & Director

DPeters-LoungeImageDaniel Peters is a freelance Director, Cinematographer and blogger from the nearby London area and an avid user of the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art and the 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art lenses.  A recent interview in Pro Moviemaker magazine revealed the reasons why.
Daniel started his career in the music industry transforming his career as a musician to a career as a cinematographer artist. Starting with a traditional bulky cinematographer camera and then converting to one of the first SLRs capable of recording full HD video.
In the PRO MOVIEMAKER Summer 2015 issue Daniel discusses his experience with film making trends and how Sigma’s fast aperture lenses are ideal for low light and shallow depth of field.  He also explains how the ‘Run and Gun’ style of video production is becoming more popular for those looking to capture real-time quality content  but often in this situation there is little time for preparation or pausing. The focal-length range of the Sigma 18-35mm | Art offers an advantage in this situation making it easier to set up the frame without having to pause for a lens change. “Instead of having to carry around a selection of  lenses, I could now use just this one optic, while still retaining a maximum aperture that was equivalent to what a prime might offer me“.
Another advantage of the Sigma Art series of lenses is the ability to handle skin tones well which makes it ideal for narrative film making as well as the bokeh that can be achieved at the widest aperture. The Sigma Art range of lenses are not only ideal optics for still photographers but are also gaining in popularity as a filmmaker’s optic.
“In terms of optical quality, the Sigma is right up there and I haven’t noticed any great difference between what I can achieve with this lens and what other, much more expensive, optics can offer.”
Daniel’s clients ranged from Kelis, Bose, Chevrolet, Hype, P&CO, JCB, Robbie Williams, and Heineken.
