Travel adventures with the SIGMA 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM by photographer Emriys

As a travel photographer, sometimes you don’t get second chances, you either nail your shot or you miss it. With any of my gear, I am always attracted to the smaller and lighter option, and for my run and gun photography, it’s important to have as little equipment as possible with me. The SIGMA 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM pretty much replaces all of my other lenses for its fantastic focal length range and low F-stop, making my camera bag lighter when I am traveling.

I am always expecting my equipment to be durable and the SIGMA 17-50mm certainly did not disappoint me. The built quality is amazing, there was this one day I forgot to zip my camera bag properly and this lens fell to a water puddle in a busy street of Central London and it kept working just fine. I know it’s not fully weather-sealed but I can guarantee that this lens can take a beating and still be by your side. This lens has been through it all, from the epic landscapes of the Welsh Coast to the iconic Eiffel Tower of Paris.

I mainly used wide-angle prime lenses in the past, so using this SIGMA lens was a game-changer for me as I am still able to get the wide-angle shots of a landscape and zoom in all the way to 50mm (80m on a crop sensor) to get beautiful out of focus elements in my photos and gorgeous portraits with its low F2.8 without the need of changing lenses. Autofocus is also key for my style of shooting if something is happening in front of me I quickly want to get my camera ready and snap a photo, with the SIGMA 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM I do not need to worry about using manual focus as the autofocus is accurate and super fast.
