Once in a while a game changer comes along and the launch of the SIGMA fp camera is one of those occasions for me. I am always looking at ways to reduce the weight and size of my kit and the introduction of the world’s smallest and lightest full frame camera definitely had me intrigued with that description alone so I had to try it.

Now after using it for several months I must say the size has been a benefit but I have also been blown away with the quality of the images it produces as well. They surpassed my previous kit set up and is now the camera of choice.

Most of my work with commissions is with photographing wildlife that has a tendency of showing itself in very low light of the early hours or towards the end of the day at dusk. Both of which would be considered as poor lighting for photographers. However, this camera has outstanding low-light capabilities and using it has proved pivotal in my filming the life of the beavers and their re-introduction to the UK.

One of the other interesting uses that I have been able to rely on with the fp Camera is continuous video recording and I’ve made a superb wildlife camera-trap including the use of the Samsung t5 and auxiliary battery. I have been able to run the camera for over 19 hours which allows me to not miss a minute of the action that I would’ve missed in a previous set-up due to the motion sensor failing to pick up the wildlife.

To say that I’m impressed with this camera is an understatement. Plus, now that I have just updated the firmware to version 2.0, I’m looking forward to utilising the new dual ISO. It will round up the fp Camera as my go-to camera that will always be with me to produce awesome images along with its lightweight compact size. I’m loving it and it is every camera persons dream creative tool.
